Measure Now Goes to Governor, Who Is Expected to Give It His Approval Forthwith — Sport Gets Immunity for This Season. Charleston, S. C.. February 15.— The racing legislation which has been the subject id statewide interest since its Introduction at Columbia, was disposed d" today so far as both branches of the Leg -lature are concerned. Last nigbl the Senate Baalty passed the anti-betting bill in its amended form md today the lower house concurred in the Senate amendments. The bill now sm-s to the governor. who probably will atiix his signature to it tomorrow. The men connected with the race track management feel satisfied over the elimination of the Injunction feature of t aiginal bill and the Immunity re-cared f.-r this season, as the law will not become operative until July 1. They are hoping for eon tingemics to arise that will permit them 10 oner ate next year. That any person within thi- state, who engages in betting, betting at any race track, pool-selling, or bookmaking, with or without writing, at any time or place; or any person who keep- or occupies any room, abed, tenement, booth or build-bag, iloat or vessel, or any part thereof, or wh 1 occupies any place or stand of any kind, upon anv public or private grounds, within this state. With hooks, papers, apparatus or paraphernalia, for the purpose of recording or registering bets or wagers, or of selling pools, and any pi rson Who records or registers Lets or wagers, or sills pool- or makes books, with or without writing upon the resuli af any trial or contest of skill, speed or power of en durance of man or beast or upon the result of any political nomination, appointment of election; OT upon the result of any lot. chance, casualty, un-knoAii or contingent even! whatsoever; or any person who receives, registers, records or forwards, or par-ports or pretends to receive, register, record or forward, in any manner whatsoever, any money. thing or consideration of value, bet or wagered, or offered for the purpose of being net or wagered, by or for any other person, or sells pools, upon any such result: or any peraoB who. being the owner, le- 1 • or occapanl of any room, shed, tenement, tent, booth or balMlag, Boat or vessel, or part thereof, or of any grounds within this state, knowingly permits same to he used or occupied for any of these purposes, or therein keeps, exhibits or employs any device or apparatus for the purpose of recording or registering such licts or wagers, or the selling id* such pools, or become- the custodian or depository for gain, hire or reward, of any money, property or thiag of value, staked, wagered or pledged, otto be wag red or pledged upon any such result: or any person who aid-. a--ists or abets in any manner in any of the said acts, which are hereby forbidden, shall be deemed guilty of ;i misdemeanor and anon conviction, shall be punished by a fine UOl exceeding one thousand ,000 dollars, or Imprisonment not exceeding six 1O1 months, or both line and Imprisonment in the discretion of the court. Section 2. That this Act shall take efTect Jul v 1.-1012. and all Acts or parts of Acts inconsistent with this Acl are hereby repealed.
