NO FAST TRIALS AT LOUISVILLE Cold Weather and Unfavorable Track Conditions Cause Cessation of Training Louisville Ky April IS A decided drop in tem poraturc combined with slow track conditions at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park caused a com ¬ plete suspension of fast work by trainers of the various stables at these two coursers Many horses as usual wen out but not a single one worked bet tor than a twominute gait at either track All the Derby candidates were under saddle at some hour of the day but the preparation they received was confined to slow cantering around the roads and be ¬ neath the sheds Tliu Manager Guaranola Free Lance Nicias Presumption George Oxnartl Clief Lindsov and Patruche were all on the course look ¬ ing well wellTrainer Trainer Fletcher Driver came over from Lexington today to secure stall room for his string the star of which is the Kentucky Oaks candidate Floral Day This daughter of Nasturtium has been working ex ¬ ceedingly well this spring and Mr Driver thinks she has a royal chance of winning the big filly vaca ¬ ting year He declared her out of the Ashlaud Oaks at Lexington because it will be run much earlier than the race here and he thinks his filly will not be in condition for racing at Lexington Mr Driver is especially anxious to win the Oaks with Floral Day as he lias already won this race with Floreal trained for him by W 11 Fizer Mr Driver also has in his string Plutocrat and a twoyearold bay colt by The Scribe Any Day the dam of Floral Day This mare he expects to foal shortly a eolt or liily by the Futurity winner Electioneer She has no yearling He has however a promising yearling in a chestnut colt by Meelick out o the Kentucky Oaks winner Florcal it being the latters lirst foal Fioreal has not as yet foaled this year but will soon drop a colt or filly by McGce McGceA A reiiort has reached the Downs from Lexington that K It Bradl v has refused a 10000 offer for his twoyearold colt lirookfield This supposed crack is a son of Yankee Gun and Itlack Tail by Disguise II It is said that Mr Bradley has made an offer to wager that this colt can Iwat McCorkle the crack youngster in T C McDowells stable and Mr Bradley has also intimated that the same offer stands good against the unbeaten Hawthorn It is also reported that August Belmont has been endeav ¬ oring to get a tirice en the latter crack He bred Hawthorn and sold him as a yearling and now that he has developed such bigli racing form he desires to get him back in his stable The owner of Hawthorn has no desire toscll his unbeaten crack Jockey crackJockey Eddie Jahnsen under contract to ride for trainer J Sweeney arrived from Chicago today suffering so much with rheumatism that Mr Sweeney will hardly let him ride during the Lexington meet ¬ ing He will endeavor to pet the itoy in condition so he can ride at the coming meeting here Mr Sweeney will take his threeyearold black colt Millo to Lexington Ho experienced trouble in getting this colt out of Mexico because of an attachment served on the former owner of the horse C P Latnar who was suspended there by the stewards When he gets to Lexington Mr Sweeney will take up his threeyearold filly Ah Mopu which has been turned out at Keenlaiid Farm This filly was a good winner last season Sir Sweeney thinks Jahnson will do some good riding on the Churchill Downs course this spring In the winter of 1010 and 3911 this boy rode in winning form at the Oakland track in California He has only recently recovered from a long spell of sick ¬ ness and his present rheumatism is a consequence of that illness O Joplin will soon take up Eland and Eglan ¬ tine which have been turned out at his farm near Elizabethtown This will make his local string number sixteen horses He also has Little Dutch turned out there but probably will not take him up until summer as the horse has not improved as much desireLew from his winter rest as he would desire Lew Alarion will take only one of his twoyear olds to Lexington namely Sam Hurst a gelding by Electioneer which is engaged in the Kentucky Fu ¬ turity This twoyearold has not shown any sensa ¬ tional form but lie is a sturdy youngster and a good goer and Mr Marion thinks that a racer of this type always has a chance in any kind of a race Ah raceAh error was made in the publication of the name of the bay colt by Otis Free Pass in the Prichard stable The colt has been mentioned as being called Pass whereas his name is Pass On Mr Prichard thinks highly of this youngster and hopes that in him IK has another Spellbound SpellboundT T P Hayes thinks the twoyearolds by Orna ¬ ment lie has in his string this season are superior all around to any youngsters lie ever before trained by this noted horse They are out of the best stud matrons at La Belle and Beaumont Farms and they are of the best conformation and size The Hayes stable with these sons and daughters of this marvelous race horse is likely to cut quite a figure on the Kentucky circuit tracks this spring and summer Mr Hayes has such confidence in his band of youngsters this spring that he hardly leaves the stable except to sleep and eat eatWhile While George M Odoin has hopes that by firing his great man Follie Levy he can bring her around by fall so she will again win good races lie would be resigned if she never did start again as lie believes she will make a great broodmare She has done so much for him on the turf that even if she should never race again she has been one of the best investments he ever made Follie Low is entirely Englishbred on the dam side She has lieen sown to blnegrass and from now on the horses will not bo allowed to work on that part of the course until a sod turf is created The course for the entire distance of the stretch has lieen graded and will be embellished by sixty IWXPS of blooming Mowers These DayF will all bo in place for Derby Day F J Kelley the Illinois turfman may have a starter in the Kentucky Oaks in the bay filly Ada Bay a daughter of Knight of the Thistle the sire of the Kentucky Derby favorite Worth In the early nineties Mr Kelley was quite prominent on the turf especially around the Chicago tracks He owned the celebrated Jiininez which holds the mile and seventy vards records of 142 at Harlem Park Chicago He was among the lirst horses to bring into prominence the now noted sire The Com ¬ moner unsuccessful bids for the Kentucky Derby in and in 1910 with Miami and Boola Boola re ¬ spectively Wheelwright is a son of Mazagan and My Beauty and Is a halfbrother to Kootenay which won ten races for T L Brown during the recent Juarez meeting He won two of his thirteen starts last season and ran third to The Manager and Bachelor Girl in the Breeders Futurity Wheel ¬ wright ran in all his races last year like a game colt always finishing resolutely The Manager re ¬ peatedly defeated Wheelwright last season
