FJIRIY APPLICANTS FOR MONTREAL STALLS STALLSMontreal Montreal Qne April 20 Although it Is nearly six weeks before the spring meeting of the Mon ¬ treal Jockey Club will open and two weeks before the entries for the stakes are to close some of the regulars at the meetings of the local club are turn ¬ ing their attention towards Montreal as shown by the early applications for stabling of half a dozen owners Never iu the hisiory or the Montreal Jockey Club have applications for stabling been made at such an early date Among the early ap ¬ plicants for stabling is Gwyn R Tompkins who is well known to Montrealcrs He looks on Montreal as a good training place and stabled his horses here during the whole of last summer fitting them for fall racing The Tompkins stable includes some of the best steeplechasers in training In his letter Mr Tompkius states that he will bring at least a dozen horses to Montreal this spring after the close of the Pimllco meeting These will include the veteran Jimmy Lane winner of more races than any other Jumper on record recordDion Dion Kerr the wellknown gentleman rider has asked for stabliug accommodations for five horses which are the property of Clarence Moore of Balti ¬ more Mr Moore will be a newcomer to the Cana ¬ dian circuit and his string like that of G R Tompkins consists only of chasers Dion Kerr will have full charge of the stable and probably will himself do the riding in races in which gentle ¬ men riders may be engaged Those horses are being meetingAnother fitted for the opening of the Pimlico meeting Another wellknown string for which stalls have heen sought Is that owned by Mrs L A Livingston Trainer Mutt Feakes who looks after this string has written that he wilt leave the Rancocas Stock Farm at Jobstown N J with six horses in train ¬ ing while he expects to pick up three more which have been wintered at the farm at Cobour1 Ont The latter trio will hardly be in condition to start with the opening of the Canadian season at the Woodbine track at Toronto but will be ready for Montreal rac ng The others in the string which arc said to have wintered well at the farm will ° f k ° ly two arolds former ycarsUmber as in inLocal Local owners are already making their nnnli tions as they will move their horses to the rM ol from their present locations as permits There won as the wenth wenthn n are many locally owned horot I ti have wintered well aud with the tiat nromlsp of season opening earlier than tunal they Vni afforded a good opportunity of being nrenanS leisurely than is usually the case n Pnf m ° The trainers of these horses are anxi mslv awnm the disappearance of the snow from the teal tealat at Blue Bonnets so as to change their method of road training to that of the track As soon as the weather will permit the management of the Mon ¬ treal Jockey Club will set men at work putting the track in condition
