IMPORTING JUMPERS FROM IRELAND Montreal Que August 17 Another Montreal horseman has branched out more prominently Ju rac ¬ ing in J Greor Chapman who started his racing career with a registered partnership in the horse Ruble now retired from racing A few weeks ago Mr Chapman sent an agent abroad to look for sonio likely racing material with the result that perhaps two of the best steeplechasers known In Ireland where the leppers come from were purchased one being Doreen a mare that is so well bred that when retired from racing she will be valuable an a broodmare Tin other is Valiant Prince by Red Prince II Valiant Woman WomanA A good figure was paid for this pair and they were shipped to Montreal more than a week ago so tlmt they are due here now and will have an opportunity of being schooled before starting their Canadian career These horses have been named for the stakes at the Blue Konnets autumn meeting and at Toronto and have heen registered in Canada as Canadianowned horses They will make their debut this fall at Klue Konnets Every year Irishbred horses win fame as jumpers in England and Franco and the advent of Doreen and Valiant Prince will he viewed with interest by turfmen on this side Both are fiveyearolds Do reou being a bay mare hy Walum dam by Kacchns while Valiant Prince is a bay gelding by Red Prince II Valiant Woman Of the two the latter seems best At any rate he has won a steeplechase while Doreeu has yet to be successful over tin jumps hilt was second to Field Marshal in her last start in Ireland a two and a half miles journey across country at County Downs Steeplechase March 14 Valiant Prince won the Farmers Steeplechase of two and i half miles at Kelts March 18 and was once placed in his other two starts of thl year Last year as a fouryearold he started hi two steeplechases and was second in both In steeplechasing abroad a liveyearold Is considered too young to do much with and such racing over obstacles as Valiant Prince and Doreeu did In Ireland was probably in a fashion educational Whether they are really good ones or not will he soon settled when they become actively ougaged in our racing but it may be assumed in advance that they will he found to he good and safe jumpers
