CRACKS NAMED FOR OPENING FEATURE Derby Winners Galore Among Nominations for Douglas Park Inaugural Handicap Louisville Ky August 17 Horsemen are deeply interested in the Douglas Park Inaugural Handicap to he rim on Monday September It will mark i he reopening of this beatiful racing park which ias been in disuse since Die fall of 1MS The Ken tucky State Racing Commission which has placed he spurt upon such a high basis in this state is csponsildc for the reopening of Douglas Park ParkSince Since this course has been closed to racing it has been maintained as a training ground in con junction vith Churchill Downs where fall and summer meet ¬ ings have annually been held There is perhaps mi race track in all America better suited to horses and horsemen than Douglas Park It has what many plants do not possess an abundance of room It would be possible to build stable accommodations it Douglas Park to house 2000 horses This could bo done handily and there would be no crowding crowdingDouglas Douglas Park in its entirety is beautiful The track itself is uncipialed for the training and racing of horses As noted a trainer as J F Schorr who ias developed Star Charter Froglegs Kdda and other cracks was heard to remark during the early sum ¬ mer in Canada No course equals Douglas Park as a training ground groundThe The Inaugural Handicap is at one mile and a six ¬ teenth Among the entries are no less than four Kentucky Derby winners in Wintergreen Donau Me ¬ ridian and Worth Then there are Free Lance the Latonia Derby winner Froglegs the Hamilton Derby winner Countless winner of the last Saratoga Cup and such other good racers as Sprite Hell Horse ISrig Mockler 15oola Ioola Starbottle Koiinie Kelso Princess Callaway Mary Davis Adams Kx nress Sun Queen Granite Any Port Ituckhorn Presumption John Furlong T JT Green Star Charter and High Private PrivateTwo Two horses Lawrence P Daley and Lady Esther hold the mile and a sixteenth record at Douglas Park made on the same day October 10 1OS The record is 1 4t Lawrence P Daley then a three yearold had up 114 pounds while Lady Esther then a fiveyearold mare carried 105 pounds poundsIn In looking over the entries to this race it is amazing to turfmen that such a great contest is in prospect for1 decision in Kentucky in the fall of the year yearLyman Lyman IT Davis secretary of the New Louisville Jockev Club has his list nt stake entries in the hands of the printers He is now compiling the overnight events for the fall meeting which begins on October 7 Tlie hook program will not he issued until after the Hual entries of the horses named to go in tin Kentucky Endurance Stakes are made on September 2 Among tlie overnight races all of which will be attractive no purse being for less than 500 added money is a twomile race which will be set to he run on the Saturday following the running of the Endurance Stakes This event will he an extra attraction with additional added money The weights will be adjusted upon an allaged basis hut upon a lower scale all around than will prevail in the Endurance Stakes Secretary Davis would like to make the race a handicap but he says there are not enough long distance races preceding it to give him a line upon all of the horses to enable him to properly adjust the weights in a twomile race
