WINNIE OCONNOR RETURNS FROM FRANCE New York September 21 Winnie OConnor one of the best known of American jockeys who have been riding abroad has returned to this country Winnie has been riding abroad for the past ton years chiolly in Franco and Germany where ho won many notable races He announced to oldtime ac ¬ quaintances that he intended to give up ridiug abroad and to go in for jumping races in America AmericaIm Im going to Havre de Grace in a day or two and look over the fences there he said I may ride at Laurel and Pimllco Im in training now and weigh 127 pounds What I hope to do at Havre de Grace is to buy several flat horses and train thorn for jumping In my opinion jumping is the greatest sport of all allAs As soon as my contract with H G Muinm of France expires which will bo about next January 1 hope to come back to America for good and devote myself to training and racing jumpers Ill prob ¬ ably bring a string of jumpers back with me meTheres Theres all the difference in the world between racing as conducted abroad in England Franco and Germany and In America Gentlemen in Europe breed their own horses and rnco them and a race meeting Is a fashionable event where women go to display the newest creations in gowns There is no such thing as a sporting fraternity in racing which Is associated In the public mind with gam ¬ bling and other forms of vice In France racing H thoroughly a gentlemens sport and as clean as a whistle
