GRATIFYING RESULTS AT DOUGLAS PARK Louisville Ky September 21 The results of the lirst week of racing at Douglas Park have been highly gratifying not only to the management of the track but to all lovers of thoroughbred racing Louisville now can boast of two of the greatest rac ¬ ing plants in tho country and each seem secure for hiucess in the future futureThe The coming week at Douglas Park will IK marked by the running of two stakes These arc the Au ¬ tumn for throeyearolds and upward six furlongs to be decided on Thursday Septeml er 20 and the Boulevard Stakes one mile and seventy yards to be run on Saturday Septcmlxr 2S In the former rnco there are thirtyone nominations and the field is sure to be a large one witn such horses as Ella Brysou Brig Sleeth Campcon Donuii Casey Jones Helen Barbee Follie Levy Vreeland King Olympian Trance Lady Lightning and Volthorpe figuring as probable starters In the Boulevard Stakes the field will likely be made up of such as Bell Horse Cop K itovn Boola Boola Merlditm White Wool Prin ¬ cess Onllaway Swammiioa Little Father Mary Davis Biickhorn Presumption John Furlong T M Green and High Private PrivateSecretary Secretary Maginn is now compiling tho conditions for tho overnight races to be decided during the closing iiine days of tho eightcendays meeting He now has a line on most of the horses stabled here and racing patrons may rest assured that the closing half of the Douglas Park meeting will furnish as good or even better sport than the opening week weekAs As the meeting progresses it may be that some extra features will bo provided Secretary Maginn has in mind a nice to bring together some of the Endurance Stakes candidates over a fairly long dis ¬ tance of ground He has not decided just as yet whether to make the race a mile and a half or two miles but it will surely be as far as the former distance distanceHe He will also put on several races which will give the various crack twoyearolds a chance to more thoroughly try out the 10000 Hawthorn which raced away from his opposition here so impressively on the opening day Hawthorn is in the Prospect Handicap to bo ran on Wednesday October 2 and most of the stars of the twoyearold brigade here are also engaged in that event Of course the big gelding will have to concede his opponents weight C F Buschcmeyer owner of the groat colt and W S Trovcy his trainer have abandoned the idea of taking Hawthorn east to race once or twice this fall Ho will round out his twoyearold career on the Kentucky tracks and be retired for the winter with the Derbys of 1013 in view viewThough Though large crowds have attended the races at Douglas Park this week there has been no conses tion in the betting ring or at the cashiers booths boothsDouglas Douglas Park apparently has a great future be ¬ fore it now that it is thoroughly established again as a racing plant and it is undoubtedly a fixture in Louisville That it will continue to grow in popu ¬ larity is beyond question Manager Ilachmeister is so conducting the plant as to leave no intimation that foreign capital is interested in its losses or profits He has instructions from the people behind him to make Douglas Park as much of a Louisville institution as possible and to work in complete har ¬ mony with the Churchill Downs management to the end that Louisville may become tho greatest turf center in America
