OUTSIDER WINS ROTHSCHILD CUP Cast Steel Scores in Feature Race at Woodbine lewis Garth Saddles Two Winning Jumpers Toronto Out September 27 The Uothschild Clip i handicap at one mile for horses owned in Canada was featured at AVoodbine this afternoon The Mel gnnd Steeplechase and the Ringwood Steeplechase both at two miles were additional attractions The firstnamed event went to Cast Steel while Lewis Garth saddled the winners of the two jump ¬ ing races in Idle Michael and Julia Armour Roth horses were ridden by W Allen and both won in a canter Julia Armour and Brosseau were tho only two of the six that went to the post in the Melgund Steeplechase that finished the course with ¬ out mishap Simon Dale and Tom Kirby fell at the last fence while Nottingham came to grief at the fourteenth jump Brosseau making his maiden effort through the field ran greenly He managed to scramble over his jumps without mishap and finally finished about lOo lengths behind the winner Simon Dale was remounted and finished third thirdMoving Moving Picture which beat a band of maiden twoyearolds in the fourth race was the easiest winner of the meeting She sprinted away from her exposition while rounding the far turn and led by a dozen lengths At the finish Martin eased her ip to a canter canterThere There was a decided improvement in racing condi ¬ tions this afternoon and with this improvement came a corresponding increase in the attendance The races were run under bright sunshine and over a track that was in fairly good condition The course dried out as the afternoon progressed and fair time was made iu some of the races racesThe The haltermen were again busy and two of the winners were boosted Chemulpo changed owners after her victory J W Hedrick securing her for 700 which was an advance of 300 over her entered lirice P M Civill was forced to stand a runup of i50 to retain Apiaster after he won the seventh race It It Morgan being responsible for the bid ding dingThe The stewards of the Canadian Itacing Association will hold a meeting at Woodbine tomorrow which will be attended by the full board Important mat ters will be taken up for consideration principal of which will be the allotment of dates for next season There will be one and possibly two more tracks in the fold next year Ottawa will bo allotted datis for a spring and fall meeting and it is just possible that the King Edward track in Montreal will join the circuit Ottawa has not yet been given repre ¬ sentation on tho board of stewards but undoubtedly will next season It is understood that there wll be a rearrangement of dates and that the Hamilton meeting will follow Fort Erie instead of preceding it as iu former seasons Also that there will be shorter layoffs than during the past two years be ¬ tween the different meetings meetingsThe The books of the Richmond meeting were dis ¬ tributed among horsemen yesterday and some will send their horses from here to Virginia Fred Gor hardy is in charge of the management and William Snyder will do the starting There will be six days of racing and the purses will range from 250 to 100 in value valueTwo Two claims were registered in the last race William Walker claimed Irish Kid from D C Cam bron for SSO and C A Crew secured Flower Girl from It Davies for a like amount
