INDIANA PRESIDING STEWARD NAMED The management of the Mineral Spings Jockey Club whose inaugural meeting will begin over its new course near Porter Ind October 12 confirms tlie report from Toronto that W R Norvell is to serve as its presiding steward Mr Norvell is well known as a competent and efficient racing official and his connection with the new racing venture will doubtless result in the shipment to the new course of the bulk of the horses that have been racing on tho Canadian courses with which he has been connected as an official this season seasonThe The Canadian racing season will close with a evendays meeting at the new Hillcrest track at Toronto ending October S and it is to bo expected that owners engaging in that racing will find it a convenient arrangement to ship to the new Indiana track when the Canadian meeting ends There will be ample time between the close of racing in Canada on October S and the opening at Mineral Springs on October 12 for the transfer It is quite probable that a special train will be arranged for to transport the horses en masse masseThe The management of tho new track will put into effect an arrangement by which one member of the board of stewards will be selected day by day from the ranks of the horsemen engaged in the racing This innovation should particularly appeal to horse ¬ men
