GREAT TRIBUTE TO RACING AT ST LOUIS LOUISSt St Louis Mo September 27 One hundred thousand people cheered Azo on to victory in the 3000 St Louis Cup two and onequarter miles at the Universal Exposition track yesterday Ao won by a half length from his stable com ¬ panion Nadzu Both of these horses belong to II C Bedwell and ruled topheavy favorites Stick Iin finished a creditable third two lengths behind Nadzu The only other starter the Mexican racer Tecoac finished beaten off after setting the early pace The race itself was a pretty contest but the notable feature of the occasion was the enormous crowd Mosses of people packed the grandstand quarter stretch bleachers clubhouse lawn infield and the hills at Iwth ends of the track It seemed as though the city of St Louis and all its en ¬ virons had turned en masse for the race Automo ¬ biles were packed all over the Universal Exposition grounds The big events of the afternoon was the St Louis Cup and the 1000 Saddle Horse Slakes Tecoac got off in front in the Cup race and led for about two miles Then Azo and his stable com ¬ panion Nadzu moved up on swinging into the stretch Tecoac quit when challenged and then it seemed as if Nadzu would win but Azo went on gamely and won ridden out by half a length Both horses were under whip and spur at Hie tinlsh tinlshCapt Capt James H llees of Memphis Teun made a special trip to St Louis to preside over the St Louid Cup race Captain Roes is one of the best known racing othcials in America HP congratulated General Manager Joseph A Murphy on the splendid rowd and Hit excellent program
