PRATT BILL IS WITHDRAWN General View Is That Government of Racing in Ontario Is Better Out of Politics Toronto Out April 15 At yesterdays session of the Ontario legislature A C Pratt member for South Norfolk withdrew his measure for the estab ¬ lishment of a racing commission for the provinc1 When it was reached in the orders of the day Mr Pratt expressed his desire to withdraw it and the bill disappeared without a word of explanation or statement from its author The bill had been prom ¬ ised for more than a year lint even when introduced it attracted little attention from racing people or the public Todays Toronto Globe says of It ItIt It would IK dillicult to show that the govern ¬ ment of racing or any other sport would be bet ¬ tered by the introduction of political control As it stands it may not be satisfactory to everybody No institution is equal to that demand but there is no insistent call for a change from the present condi ¬ tions The Ololie would be glad to see the Installa ¬ tion of the nnitnel system of wagering made obliga ¬ tory and all Ixoiking on running or harness races prohibited but that condition will be better obtained and with more lasting good results by the pressure of public opinion than by any be it enacted with the x ssiblity of entanglements by placing the con ¬ trol of affairs in the hands of political appointee who might or might not have the permanency of the sixirt as their dominating principle Mr Pratts bill at least may have the effect of a notification to all concerned and in this way its results would be beneficial though it never passed the proposal stage
