MAY BE ANNEXED TO THE CITY. Hamilton, Out., October 3. If the city fathers persist in their Intention to annex the Hamilton Joekev Club property, there is likely to le a strong protest from the directors of the jockey club, and also the township of Barton. Under existing conditions the owners of the property stand to pay eonsid-erablv less In taxes .while the township will object to losing this revenue, which now adds greatly to Its tax returns. In 1912 the jockey club paid into tlie county the sum of .4S in taxes, and this year ,000. The assessment of the property on the township books for the present year is 21,S00, while it is valued bv prominent and reliable real estate men at 00,000. With tlie annexation of this valuable property to tlie city the taxes would be greatly increased, and it is only to be expected that the owners will put up a strong fight against any such movement. On the other hand, it seems only reasonable that this property should become part of the city, city olliclals say. It is now surrounded on all sides by the city and its annexation is one of the probable things of the near future.
