RACING IS AGAIN EOKMFUL PUBLIC CONTINUES TO MEET WITH SUCCESS IN PICKING LATONIA WINNERS. Improvement in Weather Is Followed by Increased Patronage at Kentucky Track Borel - on Three Winners. Cincinnati, O., October 22. With improved weather conditions, there was a great increase in the attendance at Latonia today. The patronage was of highly satisfactory proportions and, although track conditions remained bad and the card was rather poor, betting was lively and of almost as great volume as on the opening day. Jockey Borel and owner II. R. Brandt were much In the limelight during tlie afternoon. The former piloted three winners, two of which came from the Brandt establishment. Borel- began his success on Cash on Delivery, followed it .up with a victory on Manager Mack and terminated the day by winning with The Reach. The latters showing this afternoon was in contrast to some of his most recent poor efforts at Louisville. The public were In fairly good form and landed on most of the winners. I-ollowing Manager Macks victory in the fourth race, M. it. Farmer bid up that horse from an entered price of to ,200 and secured him. Manager Mack returned to the paddock in such bad condition that shrewd horsemen expressed their belief that todays race marked the termination of the horses racing career. Manager Mack was an overwhelming favorite, the rough track being considered to his liking and he made good in handy fashion, with L. H. Adair second and Henry Ritte third. Rash, the only other starter, finished a bad last. Marcos presence in the saddle on Bob Heusley was held to be against that racers chances, but ife was good enough to win over Holtou in the opener. Robert "Kay, an outsider, beat Monstone, the favorite, for third money. George Oxnard and Galley Slave were almost equal choices for the second race, but Barnsrd, a frequent disappointment, beat them both to the finish. Galley Slave lauding second and Toddling outstaying George Oxnard for third money. Cash on Delivery scored his third straight victory when-he- outpaced Winning Witch in the third race. Birdie Williams, the shortest priced winner during the afternoon, had to be driven hard to outstay Minda. The Reach came from a long way back in the stretch during the running of the closing dash to beat Vreeland and Duquesne. The latter pair, by a strange coincidence, received exactlv the same support in the straight pooling, but Duquesne had the call in the place and show pools. Rain, which began immediately after the last race, promises to last throughout the night and will cause a continuance of bad track conditions. Joseph McLennan arrived today from Chicago in the interest of the Jamestown Jockey Club meeting and to secure from owners entries for the stakes that will be run at Norfolk this fall. Mr. McLennan, who will also officiate at Charleston during the coming winter as clerk of the scales and associate judge, will also take entries for the twenty-three stakes to be decided at Palmetto Park during the seventy-eight days of racing. F. J. Pons has sold Rock Bar to E. W. Moore. Originally it was Mr. Moores intention to rest from racing this winter and ship his string to Nashville, but he has changed his plans and now intends to send his ten horses to Charleston. Jefferson Livingston sustained a loss during the night when the yearling colt by Cesarion Meddlesome Daisy died. The youngster arrived here late yesterday afternoon with eight others from Lexington and was unloaded in bad condition. W. 0. Clancy today sold to J. B. Respess the once good race mare Fern L. She will be sent to Mr; Respess Woodlawn Farm in Ohio and mated with Dick Welles. F. J. Grefsr today announced his intention of shipping his useful string of racers to Charleston to engage in the raciug there. Hugh McCarren intends to keep Brigs Brother busy during the coming winter and. has nominated him for seventeen of the twenty-three stakes that are listed for decision at Charleston. Secretary Edward Jasper of the Juarez track, who is looking after the entries for the stakes to be run at the Mexican course, reports the receipt of a good list. These stakes will close November 1. Barnard and Cash on Deliverv. comprising the two-horse combination, yielded 2.05 for . Manager Mack. Birdie Williams and The Reach, in the three-horse combination, had numerous supporters and paid onlv 0.40 for each investment. Tomorrows curd represents considerable improvement over the ordinary ones of the past two days. Colonel Milton Young has returned to his home at Lexington on nccount of the severe attack of rheumatism from which he has been suffering. Henry McDaniel will be here shortly from British Columbia to strengthen his stable for the winter campaign at Juarez. W. W. Darden brought only three horses here from Louisville, including Reclprocitv and Little Father. The rest of his string he left at Churchill Downs.
