NOTES OF THE TURF. A. L-. Kirby will take a dozen of J. H. Respess horses to Juarez to race. Jockey Montour will go along. In winning the Russian Derby with Demosthen K. M. Lazeroff scored his seventh, success in that race during the last ten years. Demosthen is by the Duke of Portlands former horse, Darley Dale, bv St. Simon Mosquee, by Masque II.. winner of the Ascot Stakes, and was Mr. Lazeroffs third successive Derby winner, lie having also won the Moscow classic last season with Mainour and with Fioreal in 1011. The gate at Longchamps on the day of the race for the Prix du Conseil Municipal was productive of close on 0,000, slightly inferior to the sum recorded on the same occasion twelve months ago, owing to the absence of the President of the Republic and also the dubious state of the weather. On the other hand, the turnover at the mutuels amounted to over 00,000, showing an increase of nearly ,000. Dr. Adolph Abrahams, lecturing at the London Salon of Photography, said he had discovered that a horse when galloping went through seven distinct phases of movement. The camera was so quick thnt it only picked out one of these phases. As six of the seven phases, when represented alone, were quite "lifeless and wooden" and the seventh good phase was extremely short, to get a spirited photograph of a horse was chiefly luck.
