LILLIS was a forward contender for the entire race and ran as if favored by the going. ASH CAN raced prominently throughout, but tired in the stretch drive. BELLE TERRE and BEHEST ran fairly well. The latter dashed into a long lead in the first half, hut tired badly in the homestretch. SPELLBOUND ran a dull race in going favorable to him. STAKE AND CAP finished with a belated rush after having dropped out of contention in the early running and, being on the outside of the others for the entire way, covered much more ground than any horse In the race and should have won. POMETTE BLEU ran and stayed well, but finally tired under punishment. SPEARHEAD finished close up. The others failed to stay the route. Overweights Stake and Cap, 3 pounds. The latter was made too much use of in making the pace and tired in the stretch drive. ELLA GRANE closed a big gap after being bumped back hopelessly soon after the start. SERVICENCE showed improvement and was a forward contender to the stretch. HALDEMAN quit.
