The lease of the Victoria Countrv Club 011 the Willows expires early next year and, as it was thought that a renewal would not he considered, the club decided to spend 00,000 on a new mile track. The oldest nice in England is the Town Plate, recently run at Newmarket. More interest than usual was taken in this years race on account of the endeavor of the owner of the land over which it is run to evade payment of the purse, which is a" ciiarge forever on the land. Local feeling was quite high over the matter, the charge having been met by the owners of the land ever since 1003 without objection. Trainer Walter Grater has two yearling fillies in training that lie regards as good "prospects, and he intends to make a bid for the rich Breeders Futurity Rice at Lexington next spring with them. One is a sister to Golden Egg. which ran second in the Breeders Futurity and later won the Clipsetta Stakes. The other is a brown filly by St. Savin Meddlesome She, dam of Foundation and Tony W. Grater has these two in training at Lexington and. while he lias not thoroughly tested their running ability, lie knows they possess an abundance of speed.
