WINNING A RACE APPROPRIATELY. On Guy Fawkes day it seemed appropriate that x a horse named Bonfire should be seen under winning colors. Mr. G. D. Smiths four-year-old did backers a good turn by winuiug the Lancashire Handicap. The race closed with forty-eight entries, but ended somewhat disappolntlugly.iis only eight horses, which may rightly, be described as moderates, went to the iwist. Bonfire, after his forward running behind Farakabad in the Rutland Handicap at headquarters, became a sound lirst fancy, although at one stage lie was apparently so badly shut in that his chance seemed hopeless. A good opening presented itself when badly wanted, however, and the son of Furze Bush dashing through subsequently had matters all his own way, being followed past tb post by Herman and Equitable.
