GOSSIP OF EASTERN PLANS. Racing in this state next year promises to eclipse all seasons since 190S, when the, Ihirt-Agnew amendments to the Percy-Gray racing law crippled the sort. The stewards of the Jockey Club are working hard to rehabilitate the sport on a clean basis. With that end in view sportsmen of highest standing are importing stallions and mares to improve the breed hot only for the turf, but for the remount service of the United States government. The donations of thoroughbred stallions and horses to Uncle Sam by patrons eif the turf have already had good results as is apparent in the quality of the chargers representing the government service in the jumping contests at the horse show. Plans for sis days of racing to be held at the State Fair in Syracuse next fall. Immediately following the meeting at Saratoga, show the wide scope of the campaign being arranged by the stewards for next year. One of the stakes to be offered at Syracuse will be worth ,000 a value equal to any of the present-day turf classics such as the Brooklyn, Metropolitan and Suburban Handicaps. In addition to the eight new stakes opened by the stewards und guaranteed by the Owners Fund 50,000 raised last spring by patrons of the turf to guarantee the payment of several stakes offered by the Belmont Park, Jamaica and Saratoga tracks there will be several other stakes to be offered soon after January 1. These stakes will be raced for at the Aqueduct and Empire City tracks, which will hold meetings next spring and summer. Plans are now being considered for at least four days of racing each week on the local courses next summer. The stewards realize that with that number of days the tracks will be able to attract horses from all parts of the country and hold them here. This year racing was held only three days a week. This was not worth while to owners of big strings and as a result many of the notable horses were shipped to Canada, where they were able to race seven days before they were asked to move to another track.
