BUSY DAYS AT PALMETTO PARK. Weather Ideal and Trainers Take Advantage of It Jockey Snyder on Road to Recovery. Charleston, S. C, November 24. Palmetto Park presented an animated appearance today and was visited by hundreds of local turf enthusiasts. They took, keen interest in the preliminary gallops of the horses this morning. The splendid condition of the track enabled fast workouts. The summer-like weather is a great aid to training operations and up to date there is not a single case of sickness among the big band of racers here. The horses that came from Kentucky will be in good condition for the opening. Arrivals continue daily and the town is tilling rapidly. The merchants , and shop keepers are already feeling the benefits and are making elaborate preparations in anticipation of a big holiday business. Work of remotleling the offices at the course began this morning and will be completed in a short time. Secretary Nathanson lias established himself in temporary offices at the course and is carrying on his duties uninterruptedly. It has been decided to employ a number of messengers In the grandstand for the convenience of lady patrons. J. W. May arrived today in advance of his horses from Norfolk, Va. His racers will come on the first special train leaving the Virginia track Tuesday evening. Tim Murphy arrived today from Chicago. Ho reports that there will be a big delegation hero from that city for the opening. F. J. Grefers good filly Floral Park indicated this morning when she galloped half a mile In 49 in handy fashion that she has fully recovered from the fall that almost terminated fatally for jockey Peak at Latonia. Jockey Snyder, who lias been making a remarkable battle for life, bids fair to succeed, according to advices from the hospital. IBe regained consciousness yesterday and spoke coherently before dropping off into a refreshing sleep. Today he continued to make good progress and the attending doctors are more optimistic of his recovery, lie was able to tako some nourishment today. Unless there is an un-lookeel-for relapse he will pull through, but it is unlikely that he will resume riding this winter Secretary Nathanson has distributed the book containing the entries to the 23 stakes that will be run during the 78 days of racing at Palmetto Park. The horses that will be campaigned here by W. P. Bnrch reached Palmetto Park yesterday from Washington, D. C. Mr. Burch, who will serve as one of the stewards, arrived today. V:. C. Smith, who .will act as the steward representing the Jockey Club, will arrive next Wednesday from his home in New York. Algernon Daingerfield. secretary of the Jockey Club, is due here next Friday and will remain several days. Trainer John Powers and jockey Buxton were arrivals vesterday from Norfolk. Clerk of the Scales Joseph McLennan wired from Norfolk that the first horse special, containing about 200 horses, will leave Jamestown Tuesday night and arrive here Wednesday morning. G. M. Johnson is expected tomorrow with his siring of racers, including those of R. P. Dodson and William Gcrst.
