ENTHUSIASTIC OVER CHARLESTON PROSPECTS. Charleston. S. C. November 27. There were niim.-crous arrivals again today "and Palnietto Park presented, a busy appearance throughout the day. The1 preliminary trials of the horses were of interest to a vast multitude of citizens who took advantage of the holiday to make their initial inspection of the track. The course proper is in excellent condition, but unless there is a good rain before the openiug it will be somewhat deep with dust. The weather CDiitinues June-like. The advance guard from Norfolk made their appearance today and grew enthusiastic over the promising condtitons here. They report that the real exodus from the Virginia course will begin tomorrow. E. C. Smith, who will serve as the steward representing the Jockey Club, arrived today from New York and immediately began preliminarv work in connection with his duties. W. H. Schulte. Fred Miller, Charles Respcss and George Land were newcomers during the day from Cincinnati. J V. Knight was among the arrivals from Norfolk. T. F .Sheedy has re-arranged his plans and telegraphed todav for reservations for eleven horses. The onlv space available for him is on the outside, of the track. , , ,, The best work of the day was the six furlongs of W. G. Yankcs Wilhlte In 1:14. Judge Wright worked an easy three furlongs and his high speed carried Iiiui that distance in 34. Oharlestonian. which is expected to go iu the Fort Sumter Inaugural Handicap, worked six furlongs in 1:1C. Starter James Milton, accompanied by his bride, is expected to arrive tonight from Now York. Harry White, who is looking after the shipment of horses at Norfolk, wired here that the strings of W O. Joplin, J. O. Talbott, Beverwyck Stable, F. Bray, F. E. Baird. and A. Malone were now en route hero and should arrive tomorrow.. Word reached here today that the good colt Go-telus had died while being shipped from Baltimore to Oklahoma.
