Grant Hugh Browne, who a Tew seasons ago raced over the Jockey Club tracks under the name of the Brownlelgh Park Stable, is coming back to the turf. Mr. Browne has never really severed his connection with the sport, but in recent years his silks have been shown but little. He proposes now to go into breeding extensively and he will race the produce of ills farm. King Cobalt, the lest horse to carry his colors, stood for several seasons in Canada and was one of the most valued of the stallions in the Breeding Bureau there. He has been returned to Brownlelgh Park, Mr. Brownes place at Goshen, and he reached there this week in company with live mares in foal to him. The mares that came were Beckon, winner or the Astoria Stakes of 1907: Tender and True. Lady Rosalie, Miss Dooley and an imported daughter or Lucifer from a Ilalma mare. This matron is indeed bred in the purple, for Lucifer is a sou of St. Simon. . . . Mr. Browne, with a view of extending his t breeding operations, is negotiating for a hirm in Virginia, near Warrenton. He sailed today with his family for Liverpool to spend the holidays in England, and after his return the deal for the Virginia place will be brought to a close. It was Grant Hugh Browne who imported tho big English jumper John M. P.. which for a time threatened to be the best cross-country performer In this co.mtrv. He proved himself a remarkable horse, but developed such an uneven temper that lie could not be relied upon. Whenever John M. P. ran ills race he too!i the In-st of them into camp, and it was only his souring on racing that prevented his attaining, real greatness. At the same time Mr. Browne Imiorted Desert Chief, another cross-country 4 performer, that showed good form.
