Kl Paso, Tex., December 25. Ideal racing weather, couplcil with a brilliant card, attracted a treiuen-duus throng to the beautiful home of the Jockey I inh Juarez this afternoon, the crowd being one f tlie largest that has ever attended an outdoor IurtiiiK event in this .section of the country. Numbered among the gathering were most of tile prominent citizens of LI Paso and vicinity. The leading Jciilurc of one of the lest cards yet offered the patrons c.f the Jockey Club Juarez was the running f i lie Navidad Handicap, one mile, for which four-lien of the best tnoroughbreds in training here accepted the weights originally assigned, or these, .Sir Fretful, Injury and Foundation declined the issue and one horse was added, leaving twelve to face the barrier, which is the largest number of thoroughbreds to face starter Caandshly in a stake or handicap at this meeting. The Livingston stable, represented by Prince Eugene and Bonne Chance, always held the position of favorite in the betting. .:. W. Fuller withdrew Injury and placed his dependence oa Dorothy Dean. The race was -won by Vested Rights, capably ridden liy jockey Taplin. who tool; his mount to the front away from chance of interference. Vested Rights set a terrific pace all the way and ran the mile in 1:37, which equals the American record for the distance, held jointly by Centre Shut and Manassch. Cousin Puss enthused the huge crowd by a great stretch run that landed her in second place. She appeared to have little chance going down the hack-stretch, where she was fully 15 lengths behind the leader, hut she ran the last quarter like a cyclone and would probably have lieaten the winner in another stride.
