NOTES OF THE TURF FROM OTHER LANDS. W .T. Clout, the trainer, father of G. Clout, the well-known French jockey, has died at Chautilly after a long and painful illness. He was only fifty-one years old. Danny Maher. the jockey, with characteristic gen-erositv, presented every old-age pensioner at Crop-well, where he resides, with a turkey and a plum pudding for Christmas. The American-bred Goldbeater, trained by J. Cannon at Newmarket, broke his off fore leg while exercising on South Fields recently and was subsequently destroyed. He was a live-year-old gelding bv Adam Roman Gold, and won a couple of hurdle races early this vear. He was bought by John E. Madden when a yearling for ,000 and by him sold to Louis Winans. The French racing year is over, and M. James Ileiinessv heads the list of winning cross-country owners with a total of fifty-nine victories and 700.-2S0 francs in stakes. M. A. Veil-PIcard being second with the same number of wins and 001,807 francs. During the live previous years, from 190S to 1012. M. A. Veil-Picard held tha place of honor. The third on the list this year is M. Descazeaux. Then come M. Louis Prate. M. Eugene Fischhof, M. Camllle Klane. M. J. Lieux. M. II. de Mumtn, M. Ch. Lienart and M. Gouttenoire de Toury.
