PLANNING GREAT SEASON AT SARATOGA. Twenty-Four Stakes to Bo Opened for Closing in March and Running in August. Xew York, January 12. Hacing at Saratoga in August next will be attended by a revival of the famous obi stakes of the association. Announcement is made that twentv-four Saratoga fixtures will be opened to close in March. Last year the stakes were not closed until Mav 12. but for 1014 it has been agreed that lietter results will be obtained by an earlier closing. Of the fixtures that are to be opened, twenty are for races on the Hat. while the remaining four will bi rteeplechases. These, with various other races that were closed October 15, will bring the Saratoga stake list tip to handsome proportions. The racing book will be built along lines in keeping with the stake offerings and the Saratoga season will be a notable one, from all present indications. The stakes that are to close in .March Include the Saratoga Ilhndlcap. one mile and a quarter; Saratoga Cup, one mile and three-quarters; Champlain Handicap, one mile and an eighth; Merchants and Citizens Handicap, one mile and three-sixteenths; Delaware Handicap, one mile; Amsterdam Selling, one milei Catskill Selling, seven furlongs. These are all for three-year-olds and over. For the three-year-olds exclusively there nre The Travere, one mile and a quarter; the Alabama, for fillies, one mile and an eighth; Huron Handicap, one mile and three-sixteenths; Sarauac Handicap, one V mile: Mohawk Selling, one mile, and the Seneca Selling, six furlongs. Mxclusively for i wo-year-olds the list includes the Saratoga Special, six furlongs: Adirondack Handicap, six furlongs; Sanford Memorial, six furlongs; Flash, live and a half furlongs: Albany Handicap, six furlongs: Troy Selling live and a half furlongs, and Kentucky Celling, for lillies. live and a half furlongs. The steepii chases to close at the same time are: Saratoga. Steeplechase, about two anil a half miles. North American Steeplechase, about two miles: Hev-erwyck Steeplechase, about two miles, and the Shii-lelah Steeplechase, two miles and a half. The stakes that closed October 15 include live fixtures for two-year-old-;, the Hopeful, six furlongs; Cnited States Hotel Stakes, six furlongs: Grand Iuioii Hotel Stakes, six furlongs: Spinaway, for lillies. live and a half furlongs, and Grab P.ag Handicap, six furlongs. fhe Saratoga Association held its air.mal election iast week anil the following named directors were chosen: Hubert Alaclay Hull. Frank V. Hurton and W. W. Worden. H. W. Lawrence was elected to till the vacancy occasioned by the death of Charles Kohlcr. Mr. Lawrence represents the Ivohler estate.
