Charleston. S. C, January 12. A fairly good card brought out the full quota or regulars at Palmetto Park today and, augmented by many visitors, the attendance was surprisingly large. Betting actio:i was again brisk, while the racing was interesting and close. The handicap at three-quarters of a mile furnished an upset in the victory of Czar Michael over Prince llermis and Old Hen. The last mimed ruled a slight favorite and showed a good perform-since, but was unequal to the task of conceding the chunks of weight be was asked to. The winner raced impressively and disposed of Prince Ilennis in handy fashion. lionuie Kelso, after having been an inactive member of the It. F. Carman establishment for nearly three years, made his reappearance under colors in this race and ran in last place all the way. The worst disappointment of the day developed in the third race when Brave Cuuurder, backed to odds-oii. failed signally and finished in third place. He was tardy in leaving the barrier, causing him to be almost left and showed some speed in racing into a contending position on the stretch turn, but in the final drive he tired -badly and left Korhago and High Class to fight it out. The latter should have won, but Martin grew careless in the last twenty yards, enabling Borcl to snatch the victory with Korfhage. The Yanke colors made it a double when Oakland, a receding favorite, took the purse in the second raw; under a vigorous ride from the heavily-backed Hat Masterson mid Nello. J. L. L Woods, who came under the ban while racing was on at Jacksonville, has been restored to good standing by the Southern Jockey Club and Steward E. C. Smith was notified of the fact today. W. C. Westmoreland, former owner of Sheets, secured that horses return from W. C. Weant at an increase over the price the latter paid for liini after the horses victory on Saturday. F. J. Coleman, who is associated in the ownership of the horses racing in the name of E. McBrhle. was an arrival from California this morning and will remain until the conclusion of the racing at Palmetto Park.
