GIVING THE BISHOP A TIP. In his notes in an English sporting journal Fairfax Blakenbourgh relates an amusing story told him recently bv the Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. His Lordship had in some way shown kindness to a Tyneside paper boy. A few days later the laddie saw his Lordship and. without differentiation lietween the priesthood and the episcopate, lie ran up to the bishop and said "Oh, father, Ive got a good tip for you for the last race." My Lord of Hexham and Newcastle was both atnused and pleased that the l.v should seek an opportunity to repav kindness shown him with what he considered to be the best information he possessed. His Lordship added "I did not utilize the information, though 1 valued the spirit in which it was given."
