NOTES OF THE TURF. Ky Slr.iw has developed a tendency to bleed. The Jockey Club Juarez has a special rule providing that in eases of dead heats in selling races one half of the excess of run-up.-; over the entered price shall go to the horse that finishes third. The stewards at Palmetto Park have dismissed the complaint liled by K. F. Carman against jockey Joe Byrne alleging a listless ride on Water Lad, but Mr. Carman asserts that he will take the matter up with the Jockey Club at New York. A grandson of the mighty St. Simon has arrived at the Kaymoud farm on the Liesse road, near Montreal. This is the tirst foal reported this year in that part of Canada, and it is a line chestnut colt with white markings, by Bassetlaw. The New Zealand Appeal Court has decided in favor of a Mr. Hall in a ease in which a Mr. Hill Claimed a portion of a stake as breeder of the win licr. .Mr. Hall purchased from Mr. 1 1 ill a mare in foal to March Arch. The result of the mating was Castalia. which won the Avondale Stakes, and the club paid Mr. Hill part of the stakes, holding that he was the brevier, as he was responsible for t In; mating. Against tills decision Mr. Hall appealed to the Court. He claimed that as he was the owner at tile time of the birth of the foal he was the breeder. The Court decided in Mr. Halls favor holding that he was the breeder. I understand that a local sportsman, noted for his patriotic sentiments, is negotiating for the purchase in England of the young Gallimilc sire, Montreal, three parts brother of the famous Polar Star, both being out of Go On, while their sires Gallinule and Pioneer, are half brothers. Montreal at present is doing service at the Coxiedge Stud Farm, Epsom, owned by John Coleman, the famous veterinary, where his fee is if 90, or IS guineas. lie is a line upstanding horse Unit ran well on a number of occasions in the best weight-for-age company. With the blood of Callimilc. Sterling. Stockwel! anil Isonomy running in his veins, it is hardly necessary to say Montreal should prove invaluable to Canada. Harry Good in Montreal .Mail.
