IMPOSTS IN GREAT ENGLISH HANDICAPS. Weights assigned the nominations to the important handicaps of the early English flat racing season were published January 30. Acceptances have been made by this time and betting quotations on the Lincolnshire Handicap and Grand National Steeplechase always follow their publication closely. Sol Joels great horse Long Set is topweight in the Lincolnshire at 131 pounds, with J. H. Joels Spanish Prince second to him at 121. American-bred horses iu the race are Sir Martin. 113 pounds, Cheerful, 101, Outratn, 99 and High Rock, 92. This race takes place March 25 at Lincoln and Is a mile dash for ,500. The Liverpool Spring Cup at a mile and three-eighths will be run March 20, and for this event Balseadden is liigh weight at 120 pounds, Lorenzo, Light Brigade and Scots Saint following at 122 pounds each. Of this trio Light Brigade won eleven consecutive races for Lord Derby last year before meeting defeat in the Duke of York Stakes at Kemptou Park last October. Only one American is engaged, Dalmatian representing Louis Winans at 113 pounds. The 0,000 Grand National Steeplechase will be run March 27. Last years winner. Covertcoat, is top weight at 175 pounds, with the French juniper. Lutteur III., which won two years farther back, next at 174 pounds. King Georges Twelfth Lancer is given 101 pounds and will have a host of loyal followers if lie goes to the post. The conditions of the big race have been changed so that the minimum weight lias been cut down from 140 pounds to 133 and a job lot of eighteen horses that never did much of note in racing are in at the latter impost. In the Hatthyany Plate of live-eighths of a mile at Lincoln. March 24, the Americans weighted are Forward, 121 pounds, Panasine, 110 and Niblick, 91. The Austrian horse, Adular is top weight at 133 pounds, witli Golden Sun next at 12! and the Americans, if ready, have a chance in this race, Panasine particularly. The Newbury Spring Cup, at a mile straight, will be decided April 2 and Light Brigade at 120 pounds heads the list, with Thistleton second at 123. Ainericaii-breds and their weights are: Sir Martin, 122, Cheerful, 10S. Sands of Time, 103 and High Rock, 102. Cheerful is a four-year-old by Plaudit French and came close to winning a fortune for his owner last fall when he ran Cantilever to a head for the Cambridgeshire Handicap. The Kemp-ton Park Queens Prize will be run April 23, and for this Balseadden is also at the top witli J2G pounds. It is at a mile and a half and Dalmatian at 113 pounds is the only American weighted. April 21 will bring about the decision of the Great Metropolitan Handicap of two miles and a quarter at the Epsom Spring meeting. Again Balseadden figures as high weight at 129 pounds and Fantasio is next at 121 pounds, the Americans being Dalmatian. 117, October, 10S and Stung Again, 93. October is by Rock Sand Octoroon and Stung Again is by Voter Mosquito. October may have a chance, lie belongs to Lord Cadogan and won the Liverpool St. Leger last fall. The Great Surrey Handicap for sprinters at live-eighths of a mile will be run the same "day. The Keene castoff, Castleton, is high weight at 131 pounds and other Americans engaged are Sir Martin, 123, Forward, 118. Panasine, 112. Westphalia, 97 and Coronis. 93. The 0,000 City and Suburban Handicap at a mile and a quarter is set for the next day. Long Set heads its list at 132 pounds, with Maiden Irlegh second at 121. American-bred horses are Sir Martin, 114, Sands of Time, 97 and Tinklebell, 90. Last years winner. Drinmore. is given 111 pounds and the Cesarewitch winner, Fiz Yania, is on the same mark.
