HODGE AGAIN FAILS AT JUAREZ. Kay Spenees Three-Year-Old Once More Finishes Third to Othello and Orb. El Paso, Tex., February 23. Kay Spenees good three-year-old, Hodge, was a starter in the live and a half furlongs handicap that served as the feature of todays card at Juarez and again failed to display the high-class form that marked his lacing as a two-year-old. Hodge was the openiug favorite in the betting, but the place of honor at post time was occupied by Othello and the Heath colt justilied the confidence reftosed in him by dashing into an early lead and retaining it to the finish. Orb was just as easily second all the way. Hodge liegan slowest of all and ran wide in entering the stretch, but finished well and showed improvement as compared with his only preceding start here a few days ago. He was attempting to concede weight to everything else in the race. The time was fast, the tirst quarter being run in :22. the half in MO-, and tin- live and a half furlongs in 1:05, which is bill little behind the track record of l:ol:;f, for the distance that stands to the credit of Pan Zareta. Incidentally, Othello was the only favorite to score during the afternoon. The beaten choices included llasson, Ooma, .Moonlight, Sea ClilV and Jack I.ax-son. James P.utler, Sr., and James Butler, Jr., will leave for New York tomorrow. They will lie accompanied its far as Cleveland by Price McKinncy. The party was to have left here yesterday, but storms west of here have delayed all trains. Jockey C. Cross leaves tonight for his home in Oakland to rest up until the Kentucky tracks open in the spring. The board of stewards that will act for the remainder of the meeting is made up of II. F. l.rei-vogel. J. T. Ireland and V. H. Shelley. They have changed their position to the lower stand, making four placing judges now instead of three, as in the past. I. B. Freeman, acting for S. A.
