NOTES OF THE TURF. Frank AYootton has applied for a jockeys license in Australia. William Walker has taken Duquosnes plates off and the horse is to get a respite from training. Cpwanls of four hundred jockeys have been licensed this season to ride at the Ileinington course at Mclliounie, Australia. The Western Australian Jockey Club has voted ,000 to a relief fund for farmers whose crops were iccently destroyed by hail. No less than 417 bookmakers have been licensed during the current racing season by the Victorian Jockey Club at Melbourne, Australia. J. M. Goode will begin this years campaign with the following horses: Doctor Kendall, 3; Mira Dell, 4; Charlev McFerran, -1; Jessie Louise, 3; Mrs. Pell, 3; Long "Reach, b. c, 2, by Out of Reach Sister Molly, and Nettie Hastings, eh. f, 2, by Hastings-Princess Nettie. Sidney L. Joscphthal, a skilful amateur rider, has purchased the jumper Maltbie from Bayard Tttcker-tnan and the old horse will race in his colors this year. Mr. Josephthal has purchased a 300-aere farm at AVarreitton, Va., where he proposes to breed steeplechasers. W. K. Phillips of Greenville, 111., has arrived at Churchill Downs, Louisville, with three promising fillies bv ltis one-time good race horse, English Lad. Only one of English Lads produce has raced, and that is Isabelle Valle, a winner as a two-year-old last year. Along with Isabelle Valle, Mr. Phillips has two good-looking two-year-olds at Louisville. G. Allen Lee, an amateur rider who was seriously hurt by a fall at Brookliue last season, has not "been discouraged by that misfortune, and has made application for a license to ride this year. Mr. Lee fell with Zarda and was so seriously injured that a report of his death was sent out. He lay unconscious for a -week, but came out of that experience with no recollection of the mishap. Small prices were realized at the dlsjtersal sale of the P. T. Chinn stable at Juarez .Saturday. A partial summary of the sale follows: Rose of Jed-dah, J. Randolph, 50; Ooma, M. Hall, 00; Baltimore, l W. Doss, 1914.sh00; Margaret Lowry, J. L. Hall, 00. Capt. E. B. Cassatt has gone to Palmetto Bluff, S. C, where he will be the guest of Richard T. AVilson, president of the Saratoga Association. Captain Cassatt has become one of the most enthusiastic breeders in the country, and at Chesterbrook Farm in Pennsylvania, in addition to the Aeronaut two-year-olds that will be raced this season, he has a number of slashing big Sir John Johnson yearlings of which great things are expected. :
