A NOTABLE GERMAN SPORTSMAN. Count George von Lehndorff, well-known German 1 sportsman, who for so many years controlled the Royal Graditz Stud, recently celebrated his eightieth birthday. It was mainly owing to his efforts that horse breeding in Germany attained its present high standard, and during his lengthy career in the service of the State he has been the recipient of many decorations, inclusive of. in 1911, the First Class of the Red Eagle with brilliants. As a gentleman rider he figured in the saddle from 1851 to 1S79, his first success being gained at Konlgs-berg on a horse called Bravo in 1851. Although Count Lehndorff retired last year from his position of-Chief Master of the Royal and Government Studs, he is, according to "Detttscher Sport." hale and vigorous as many a man twenty years his junior.
