"filNGER" IS IDENTIFIED M. J. DALY DECLARES HOUSE IN CUSTODY AT CHARLESTON IS G0LLIW0GG. Task of Palmetto Park Officials Now Is" to Unearth Persons Concerned in Attempt to Defraud Racing Folk Leave Charleston. Charleston, S. C, March 30. The stewards or the Charleston Fair and Racing Association yesterday went a step further in their investigation of the attempted "ringing" incident here in the second race last Friday when -M. .f. Daly identitied the horse in the case now in the sheriffs iossossion, as OolHwogg, which he formerly trained. Colliwogg had previously been identitied by scores of horsemen as the one substituted for Country Boy, but the stewards deemed it best to send for Daly, who was at Norfolk, to make the ideiitilication complete. Daly readily recognized Colliwogg by his conformation, his markings and several peculiarities. The horse also gave evidence of recognizing his former trainer. Witii satisfactory evidence as to the horses identity, the stewards will now proceed to sift the facts in the case and round up those implicated. Stewards 1-7. C. Smith and W. P. Burch will remain here several days to linish up the case. Peroxide of hydrogen Is supposed to have been the means employed in changing Colliwoggs color in the effort to have him pass for Country Boy. The a plication of the chemical was so crudely accomplished that the moment the horses blanket was removed in the paddock the attempt at substitution became apparent. Joseph McLennan, associate judge and clerk of the scales, was one of the lirst to discover the deception. By the time the horse was ordered withdrawn from the race, his odds had been reduced to 3 to 1 from an opening price of 12 to 1. Departures were numerous yesterday . and today and Charleston Is pretty well divested of the racing folk. The Kentucky special train left this morning and will arrive in" Lexington Tuesday morning. Because of the scarcity of stalls at the Kentucky Association course some owners will rieTcr their ricpar, Jji.re until, more stall room under construction Is completed afLexiiigtoii. " The stable oT it. F." Carman will not be shipped until about April 11. Jockey Peak has signed to ride for Mr. Carman on the Kentucky tracks, but will go to Norfolk and rlrio there during the period intervening until the opening at Lexington.
