LONG ISLAND HORSES BACKWARD. New Turk, May 19. an unasaaBy cold winter and the mosl backward spring in the memory of f Long island residents is responsible for the lack of , condition iu the horses that wintered at and received , their spring training on the tracks at Sheepshead | Bay and Graveaend. The stables which shipped to | Havre de Grace and Pimlico from these tracks hive , nut with little or no success. In his private stable just outside j the track are quartered six racers belonging to a. L. Ante. The star of the string is Ten Point, a j good winner as a two-year-old, one of the best three i year-olds in training in 1018 ami at present reeelv- , rug an easy preparation for the Metropolitan Hand! cap. This son of Jack Point and Gold Ton. a snap , ping big coll as a three-year old. has tilled out , amazingly during the winter and looks Ihe thorough , bred all over. The stable does not intend to make , its mistake of last spring, when the coll was hurried j in his preparation for Ihe stakes in which Be was | engaged. He is receiving a careful preparation for j tin- Metropolitan, but will not lie- sent to the post j unless he is in the Deal of condition. Others in the Aste stable are Robert L.. a tlirt e v -e.tr old maiden and a half brother to that fast sprinter Phyllis An | tolnette. another member of the sextette. hildy and ; two Jack Point two-year olds. The youngsters will , probably not be sent to the- post before the Saratoga ; meeting. i Peter Wlmmer is in charge of seven two-year olds , :iinl one three-year-old, belonging to :. 1 . widener. The youngsters were bred by Mr. Widener and in , common with the other racers quartered at the track i are backward. Six are by Garry Herrmann and one , by Electioneer. Mr. Whinner is a recent arrival at , the course. ] Frank J. Nolans i.everwv ck Stable is the RMSt recent arrival at Sheepshead Bay. In charge of . George Zeigler are the four winter campaigners, ] Kingling. Over the Sands. Hocnir and Manson. . Col. HoTloway and Aldrian. which wintered at Sara i toga, are also under his care, as is Hesitation, a two-year old nlly hy Banyan -Bed Hook that is Mr. Nolans first experiment in breeding. Ed Heffner is preparing Punch Howl for his stake engagements at l.elmont Park, and also expects Gay Fisher to round to form during that meeting. Steve Lavvhi iias ten two year olds and two three-year olds, the property of the Quincy Stable, quartered at the Buy. All are maidens, hut they are a mey-loaking lot. Jumbo, a half brother to Stales man. is an unusually big youngster and one of which much is expected. L. Martine wintered six and all are backward in training. Four are the property of Mr. Steinbeck, a newcomer to the turf. Mr. Marline asserts lie has the biggest two-year-old at the track iu Celery Jack, a son of Golden Maxim and Yirgilis. W. F. Herman Moselle is preparing his plater Strenuous for the coming meeting. Less activity prevails at Gravenead whore some forty horses are slowly rounding to racing form. A. J. Goldsborough is in charge of seven, including Undaunted ami Roomer, the latter being Andrew Millers candidate for the Metropolitan Handicap. W. T. Anderson will ship tomorrow to Toronto with fourteen, four being two-year-olds. 1eep oPa.v is the heat represented sin- in the collection. Mr. Anderson being especially partial to that sire. With over l.OMi stalls engaged at lteiinont Part., owners of tiorses will he pleased to hear that the long Island Railroad intends to run a special train from Sheepshead Bay and Craves, nil to l.elmont before the races eaeh day. thus disposing of any won intent they may have felt as to stable ac com modat ions. The train will he a combination horse ami passenger train and will return at the end of the days racing. Slake books for the Westchester Racing Associations spring meeting at Belmont Park have been issued.
