Carputhia Being Only Outsider to Score — Thrilling Finish Between Lady Moonet, Othello and Buc, Cincinnati. O.. June ft. — The extreme heat, coupled with an ordinary offering, accounted for a smaller attendance than was expected at Latonia this after noon and also caused a falling off in the volume of speculation. Small tields were the rule iu all the races except the third, in which the limit number Of Iwo. vear olds ran. The apart was again excellent and immensely enjoyed. Favorites Won three of the races, second choices two. and Carpathia scored as mi outsider. The latter was backed by Ihe Lex ington contingent. Most of the racing was again done on Ih.- strip of track next to the inner rail where Ihe going was tinn. Those horses with an Inside until position ami known Io possess early speed were much in demand by the sharp players. A three quarter mile allowance race was the Im lure and it furnished a thrilling struggle between Lady Moonet. Othello and Bee. ihe first uarned w.n by a narrow margin. Othello was the favored ..in- and showed extreme speed for half a mile, then weakened although he finally held on fairly well. Bac suffered extensive interference on the stretch l urn and again in the last furlong. Neylon may Inn. been to blame for Irving to get through au Impossible opening, but the majority seemed to think Martin, on Othello, was at fault. The stew ar.l- mu-l have held to Ihe former view, for they look no notice of Neylons complaint of foul. Jefferson Livingston won a purse when Cash On Delivery sprinted home an easy winner in the fifth race. The horse was taken oft the cars only a few hours before starling in the race and for that reason the big operator- did not have much confidence iu his abilii.v to win. George M. Bendrie vvou his tirst purse of the season when Rancher seared impressively in the opener over Chesterton and Rhodes. OHagan. from the James MacManus stable, just lasted to beat Guide Post in the second, with Venghee third. K. T. Cotton, the hitters trainer, advanced the Win net- to fl.ooo front his entered price of 00 and secured him. Alkanel. which was bought yesterday by J. V. May. won for her new owner in a rattling Uuish with ldiola and Lea lnvalides. The closing dasu went to Carpathia on which the diminutive Robin son rode a smashing good race and beat Golden Treasure, on which Marl in had the mount. Satu Hlrscb, the favorite, finished third. W.
