Murphy ha? been in New York for a few days attending to some details in connection with the opening of the race meeting at the old Fair Grounds in New Orleans on January 1. The meeting at New Orleans will continue for forty days, which will bring the racing up to February 17. Judge Murphy said that he was heartily sorry, that there was an unavoidable conflict of dates with II. D. Browns track at Marian-ao, Havana, and that he had talked the matter over with Mr. Brown. It was agreed that the conflict could not be avoided for it is essential that the racing season in New Orleans take in the Mardl Gras week. Judge Murphy said that the meeting is absolutely assured and that sufficient money has been subscribed to make the sport certain without depending upon the gate receipts. The plan is to distribute ,200 daily. This will be divided into four purses of 00 each and two of 00 each.
