I STAKE TO ADDED STARTER GAELIC, FROM STABLE OF A. B. HANCOCK, WINS EASTERN SHORE HANDICAP. Change in Track Conditions Influence Trainer to Add Son of Celt and He Scores Easy Victory Emerald Gem Accounts for Sprinting Handicap. Baltimore, Md., November 10. Gaelic, an added starter that ran coupled with Andrew M., as the A. B. Hancock entry, won the Eastern Shore Handicap at Havre de Grace this afternoon. It was a dash of five and a half furlongs for two-year-olds and was the feature of a well-lialauced program. A change to wet track conditions suited Gaelic. It was the first opportunity that the mud runners have had in a long time and it was mainly on account of the going that trainer James Fitzsimuioiis decided to add Gaelic. Hutwell had the mount and, directly after the start, rushed Gaelic up to the leaders. Opening up an easy lead on the turn out of the backstretch, Gaelic led for the remainder of the race. Sarsenet was second and Hanson third. The race was truly run and there was no excuse to offer for those behind the winner. Aside from the Eastern Shore, a handicap at six furlongs for all ages, attracted attention. Tlie field was a small one, but several of the starters had shown an ability to run well in the going. The westerners backed Harry Shaw to a man and that celt ran a good race and finished a close second to Emerald Gem. The latter got much the best of the break and at no time during the running was she fully extended. Tartar managed to finish third. Celesta, of which much was expected, showed a poor performance. She was never prominent aud was beaten off at the end. The steeplechase went to Mystic Light, with Charlie Grand in the saddle. The latter rode a well judged race, following Jesuit, which set the early pace, and delaying his move until the last turn of the field. When, called on Mystic Light moved up stoutly and easily disimsed of his opposition. Idle Michael had a rather rough trip or tie would have been troublesome, llis rider lodged a claim of foul against the winner, which was not allowed. Charlie Ellison was au arrival from Kentucky this morning. His plans are to remain over for the rest of tlie meeting and then go to Charleston. Mr. Ellhon is among those who have decided to take in the meeting at Havana, Cuba. I.dward McBride received word that his horses, which were shipped from Pimlico on Saturday last, arrived safely at Palmetto Park, Charleston. The yearlings that Mr. McBride purchased in Kentucky are also at the Charleston course. Schnapps, which was shipped south by James Arthur, was taken sick en route and unloaded at Columbia, S. C. Reflection was claimed by Sam Louis after she was beaten in the opening race. She cost Louis . Louis has made numerous entries for tlie stakes offered by tlie Cuba-American Jockey Club. Jockey J. McTaggart was suspended for the remainder of the meeting for general incompetency by his contract employer, Hugh Penny, this afternoon.
