GOOD PROGRESS AT ORIENTAL PARK. I H. D. Brown Describes What Has Already Been Accomplished on New Track at Havana. Baltimore, Md., November 10. IT. D. Brown, whose latest venture is the promoting of a winter race meeting in Cuba that holds out tlie promise of success, in speaking of the coining season of racing at Havana said: "Oriental Park is rapidly Hearing completion. All of the grading of the track proper was Huished a couple of weeks ago. I am putting a top dressing of black loam IS inches deep ou the track, and there remains only a quarter mile of this work to be done. The track proper will be finished five weeks before Xhe opening of the meeting, which will give it a good chance to settle and get in shape before we begin racing. "Work on the stables is rapidly nearing completion and ail of the steel uprights and beams .a the grandstand have been placed in position. Before I left Havana, a couple of weeks ago, President Menocal, accompanied by seven senators and several members of his cabinet, motored out to Murianao to look over the work done at Oriental Park. President Menocal. who, by the way, is a civil engineer, was highly elated with the way things were shaping up at the course. He made it known that the government would give the meeting every support possible, and said that the government engineers would begin work immediately on the approaches to the course. All of the roads leading to Oriental Park are modern, making splendid autombbiie drives." President Menocal commissioned Mr. Brown to purchase a handsome trophy, which he will donate to the Menocal Handicap, a mile and a quarter dash, of the value of ,500.
