LESTER REIFFS REINSTATEMENT. The Special Commissioner of the London Sportsman, commenting on the reinstatement of Lester ItVlir in England, has this to say: "Writing of jockeys and blame, 1 am reminded that" the ban has at last been taken off Lester-Reiff, though whether he will ever come back to the practice of his profession I do not know. 1 was always very strongly of opinion that he was unjustly punished, but that is now a matter of the past, and he must, at any rate, have been a great jockey in bis final year among us If, as was alleged", he kept stopping horses, and was, nevertheless, easily head of the list of winning jockeys. Tne last time I saw him was only a few years ago when he was trying for a jockeys license in France, hut could not get it until ho was given one here. He had not at that time put on any weight, and I dare say has not done so now. "A curious jtoint in connection with the Calendar notice about Lester Reiff Is that, unless I am egregiouslv mistaken, it is simply a repetition of what was done several years ago. In others words, the warning off notice was withdrawn, as it had been in the case of other jockeys, and it was ou that that Rein" applied for a license to ride in France, believing that lie was clear as regards England. He was told, however, that he must get a jockeys license In England as a condition precedent to his lieing granted one in France. He applied for a license in England, and it was refused. This is my recollection of "what happened, and 1 have a pretty good memory of matters that interest me."
