MUD RUNNERS TO THE FORE RACING AT PALMETTO PARK UNDER MUDDY TRACK CONDITIONS IS FORMFUL. Harry Shaw Successfully Concedes Weight to Othcis in All Aged Handicap Jockey Van Rightmire Dies in Charleston Hospital. Charleston. S. C. December 14. The latter pair fought it out in strenuous fashion for second money. Water Lady had an extensive following in a speculative way. hut she never was a formidable factor at any stage of tint running. The public was in high fettle after the opening dash, In which they sustained a setback when lllackthorn succumbed by a nose to River King. They landed on all the remaining winners. There was much regret among the turfmen here today over the death of jockey Van Rightinirc. who succumbed last night in a local hospital to an attack of Rrlghts disease. The dead jockeys home was in Brooklyn, X. V., where his remains will be shipped. At on- time Rightmire was employed by R. F. Carman and won many races in that horsemans colors, lie had been riding free lance here this season and piloted several winners. The program book for the lirst eight days of racing at Havana was distributed to owners here this afternoon. The puree offerings for the first eight days aggregate 5,800. The stewards of the meeting are: T. C. .McDowell. Charles Lansdalu and W. 1. Iturch. The first-named will preside. It. E. Watkins stated this afternoon that ho would ship Harry .Shaw and Boxer to Xew York fi- Uu; of the racing here, while the -others in ls stilblh would he shipped in charge of his brother To Xew Orleantoirwe. Wayne Lewis bought at private terms this morning the horse .1. II. Itarr from It. I. Dodsou. Undercover, in tlil stable of I. S. I. Randolph, was destroyed yesterday. The horse contracted lung fever en route from Havre de Grace. Jockey 1. Connelly was discharged yesterday frolu the Keeper Hospital, where he went for treatment for a general breakdown.
