GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY. Joaquin Miller left an estate of 1,990. Five lions escaped from a theatre in East Eighty-sixth street. New York, and several policemen were required before they were re-captured or shot. The French line steamer Floride. more than a week overdue from Havre, concerning whose safetv there has been much apprehension, has arrived at New York. Secretary of the Navy Daniels ordered the cruiser Taconia, now in San Domingo, to proceed to Colon to guard against violations of the neutrality of the Panama canal. The city of Pucbla in the Mexican state of that name has been evacuated by Carranza forces and now is held by Zapatistas. The Carranza troops burned the railroad station before departing. President Wilson explained that no formal protest has been made to this government by any foreign nation in regard to Arizonas anti-alien labor law. Formal inquiry has been made by Great Britain, Italy and some other nations.
