NOTES OF THE TURF. It comes to light that the five-year-old hor-e Lord Dunbar, by Kilkerran-Taplola, sold by T. J. Brown to the Algonquin Stock Farm during tha last spring meeting at Pimlico. was killed later on while being schooled over the jumps. .T. Simon Healy, trainer for Capt. E. B. Cassatt. was in New York a day or two ago and reported that the Cassatt horses are iu splendid shape. The Sir John Johnson youugsters are showing great promise, and he also spoke enthusiastically of a half-brother to Spring Board, a half-brother to Hydroplane and a half-brother to Garbage. W. M. Carter, who has been training the thoroughbreds of Thomas Fortune Ryan, will embark in racing on his own account as an owner. As a nucleus for his stable he lias obtained three thoroughbreds from the Ryan string Daiugerlield, My King and Bendale. He will open a public stable at Bcnnlug and will devote most of his attention to steeplechasers. Some of the New Zealand racing clubs make a special study of Uic comfort or their patrons, and in this connection an Auckland paper mentions thnt Tor some years past the Auckland Racing Club has supplied hot water to those picnicking under thj trees near the old mile post during the racing at Ellerslle. This privilege is now to lie extended, mill boilers are to be erected under the trees trom tho mile and a quarter post down to the nursery tor the convenience of those who patronize that portion fC the course. This will be a great lwion to those who hitherto have had to walk a couple of furlongs tj get hot water.
