Despite oil account of unfavorable weather and track Condi ¬ tions Fine weather had succeeded the ilo ipoiir of yesterday and the track was in good condition The card was given over to the selling platein ex iept for a race for maiden twoyearolds whici I was won by Father Kelly The card was so cUiimilt that the talent was unable to pick a single Winutr every favorite being beaten Several of the days winners were quoted at highly remunerative odds oddsA A high cool wind hlsw all afternoon but a big crowd visited the track trackGeneral General Manager M J Winu made the deiinito announcement today that the Juarez meeting would continue until and including April 4 This will exceed the onu hundred days of racing promised to patrons dayiAlbert of the meeting by eighteen racing dayi Albert J Sweeny of Cleveland O Is a late ar ¬ rival and intends to remain until the closo of tlie siflsnii siflsniiDr Dr C It Richards and several others returncxl from yesterdayThe New Orleans yesterday The recent reducing of the five furlong record lo 7f by the tlylng Pan Zureta at Juazez again proved that when in its best condition the Mexicaii track is the fastest in America The brilliant perform aino of the daughter of Abe Frank is on a j ar with that of Iron Masks six furlongs in 109 last win 1 tor liittli of these races were run in roc 3rd time for an eliptical and are likely to stand for a num ¬ ber of years or at any rate until tome horse appears at the Juarez track which possesses speed etual to that f Pan Xareta and Iron Mask Suck pheiio nioually fast horses only once In a while ihy W up illld when they do appear it is not always that opportunity comes with ideal track conditions tr put them in the exclusive list of record Urn UrnUnquestionably Unquestionably when at its fastest a reaUy jjreai horse could break all records at this course it now stinds far ahead of all other tracks in short dis ¬ tance records as Iron Mask also ran five ant a hqlf furlongs iu 1X over it Two other circiiar track records for short distance races a so stai id to the credit of the Juarez course these being tl e three and a half furlong mark of made hv Supremacy and Ainons half mile record of 4G1S which has been equaled but jievvr beaten beatenTio Tio Juarez course calls for two turns in run ¬ ning either five or six furlong the same as the mill tracks throughout Hie United States One I difference however in the course is its immense breadth which gives a horse a wide sweep on the turns and a rapid runner does not have to slow down on the turns as is the case on most tracks It also makes the course the safest yet laid out 3or running races over and since the sport was inauinir ateld here there has never been a fatal accidsnt ill a race There are no excuses for crowding in rnn here and the stewards mete out severe pioi islnnent to all jockeys who apply rough riding tactics tacticsThe The stable of ilie noted California turfman A B Sproekols the members of which ire trained br C W Carrol and ridden bv jockey J Metcalf leads in winning twoyearolds during the present winter meeting t Juarez Six winning youngsters have come from the Spreckels barn nainoJy Divai Menu Shaban Sangallo Anita and Tyijan tln last named being the winner of the Yucatan Stakes All Of these performers were bred at iipa Stock farm the breeding establishment of this turfman In tlie Golden State So far at this meeting eleven horses bred at Napa Farm have won nies those beside the twoyearold division including Hocnir Slnal Iiiirin Amity and Aswan This goixl record however is not up to the mark scored here last year by horses bred and raised at the Spreckels raneji as the number of winners then totaled li They embrace Durln Dynamo Birka Sigurd Sosius Ceos iryki Wheeler Napa Nick Anar Amon Gimli Gylti Goinul and Fafner The records will show that few horses bred by this turfman have failed to win when given a good racing chance Mr Spreckels now owns n good bund of stud matrons and be proposes in the near future to btiv a high class sire Trainer Carroll will give the California turfmans stable a high trial this season lie has not yet started his real cracks and the best in the barns will not be seen under colors until spring and summer His program now Is to ship the stable to Churchill Downs at the conclusion of the winter meeting here and when the New Louisville Jockey Club meeting Is over next May go on to Belmont Park with the entire aggregation and race all summer on the New York courses Carroll expects Mr ard Mrs Spreckels to nay a visit to the Juarez track before the winter meeting ends They have promised him to make the trip and it will mark their first visit here though every season horses owned by them have carried their colors successfully on this course courseT T II Ryan has had enough of Gano He has not as yet sold that erratic colt but he has turned him over lo trainer H W Hoag to race out the rest of the Juarez meeting amimen Hoag will get him at his own price Gano ran some good races when In the stable of T P Hnyes in Kentucky but be has been a big disappointment since be ¬ coming a member of the Ryan string The Illinois turfman is much like the late Byron McClelland when he gets sour on a horse He wants him out of his stable and In weeding out his string he makes few mistakes Gano is a brother to Wishing Ring a broodmare owned by Qoorge Lindeuberger otlicial timer at Juarez as well as on the big Ken ¬ tucky tracks and is expected to soon give birth to her first foal which will be by Zeus that good son of the groat French horse Adam Were Gano entirely sound he mign be a real good race horse but as it is Hoag will be lucky to win with him even in moderate company companyJockey Jockey J Callahan is able to be about again but his collar bone which was shattered still re ¬ quires the carrying of his aVnl In a sling He may not bo entirely well until spring racing begins in tile north He has not as yet decided as to whether he will ride iu Kentucky thi spring He is in ¬ clined lo think that he will again try his luck on the Maryland tracks though he may ride at Lex ¬ ington and Churchill Downs before going east eastJ J Howard will try his luck on tlu halfmile tracks in Canada again Ibis year He says there are too many highclass riders bound for Ken ¬ tucky and unless lie can succeed in tying up with some good stable It is folly for him to go there He just missed going last year with J S Hawkins and instead joined a string which possessed little winning material Had be gone with Mr Hawkins lie is confident he wonld have had the mount on Chalmers in all that colts brilliant races and iould likely ride him in the coming Kentucky Uerjiv Howard is still a good post rider He has not had many good mounts here this winter winterIt It A Jones likely twoyearold Thats Me has developed omelets and his owner has about decided lo tuni him out of training until fall He is the only twoyearold in training by the noted horse Harriga1 with the excepton of the unbeaten Julia L which Jones will take to Kentucky at the close of tlie iiroting here to fill her engagements In tin Breeders futurltr at Lexington and the Debu ¬ tante Stakes at Chilichill Downs both of which may be won by her if she retains her present form She has attracted more attention than mv lillv of her age that ever raced at Juarez and has madi ¬ as favorable an impression with good judges among horsemen as Hawthorn or Old Ronebud did iu their years here She looks all over a twoyearold cham ¬ pion and moreover races like one She Is a perfect post breaker and runs as true ntf steel Moreover she finishes like a genuine stayer and in fact is bred to go any route of ground She is extremely well developed having more size than Round the World possessed iu her twoyearold form She also has as much dazzling speed as that great filly had In her early form and which enabled her to so long remain unbeaten at that age Horsemen here think if she lands iu Kentucky in as good condi ¬ tion as she is in here it will take a letter two yearold than ever has won the Breeders Futurity to show the way in that rich event to this slashing daughter of that old turf favorite Harrigan
