BETTING METHODS NO VIOLATION OF LAW Grand Jury at New Orleans Makes Final Report That Is Highly Pleasing to Racing Folks New Orleans La February 27 In its final re ¬ port the Orleans parish grand jury finds that the reccnf rjiiicTpiceting as run at the Fair Grounds was carried on in a proper manner and that the betting was not In violation cf the Locke law or any other Jaw on the statute books Ministers and others have tried to have the grand jury Hud that the betting was illegal Two investigations of the system at the IwdyOfficials truck were mnde by the Inquisitorial Iwdy Officials of the Business Mens Racing Association are naturally pleased over this report by the in ¬ quisitorial body since many ministers of the city had characterized the individual betting as a cir ¬ cumvention of the Locke law On two different oc ¬ casions at the request of District Attorney Chand ¬ ler Luzenberg the grand jury took up the matter of the race track betting and many witnesses were summoned It is understood that members of the body visited the track to satisfy themselves that the law was not being violated The stamp of approval of the system given by the jury will aid the meetingJudge association in carrying on next years meeting Judge Charles F Irice who presided this winter at Juarez arrived today en route to Nanles Fla where he will put in the next six weeks fishing and resting as the guest of John Hachmeister and George M Hendrie Mr Price looked the picture of good health and expects to be on hand at the open ¬ ing of the Kentucky racing season in lietter shape than ever to resume his duties of presiding otlicial at Louisville and Latonia He stated that it had been decided to extend the Juarez racing season until April 4 and that conditions there were im ¬ proving daily The ring managers still have a huge amount on the wrong side of the ledger Judge Price was accompanied by Mrs Irice and Mr and Mrs Marshall of Montgomery Ala While here Judge Price met n number of the horsemen and was highly gratified by their glowing accounts of the banner lace meeting recently held at the Fair Grounds GroundsTlie Tlie horsemen here are more anxious than ever in regard to the Arkansas racing situation They were informed today that the snate has passed tin racing bill by a vote of 17 to 1C but with an amendment which forces the measure back to the lower house for concurrence It is supposed that the house will accept the measure in its present form and put it through In the event of a race meeting being announced soon at Hot Springs 2 o horses are in readiness to be shipped there by special train
