PROMINENT TURF OFFICIAL DIES SUDDENLY Edward W Maginn Long Connected with Racing in Missouri and Kentucky Taken Away Latonia Ky June 17 There was sincere regret among turfmen this morning when the lowering of all flags at the Latonia track to half mast con ¬ veyed the first intimation of Edward W Maginns sudden death He died this morniig at the Jewish Hospital where he was conveyed yesterday after ¬ noon on taking a turn for the worse The cause of death was double pneumonia His wife was with him at the time of hit death deathJohn John Ilaelimeistor immediately communicated with Frank Maginn one of the brothers of the deceased who will arrive tonight and arrangements will then be made for the hurlil which will take place in St Loiiis LoiiisEdward Edward Maginn was lifty years old and passed his earlier days in Cincinnati where ho graduated from St Francis Xavier school He became Identified with racing in an otlicial position at the Fair Grounds St Louis where lie first served as clerk of the scales and later as racing secretary Since then lie has served as racing secretary as ¬ sociate judge and hamlicappcr at Delmar St Louis Clinton Park Little Hock Ark the Fair Grounds Xew Orleans City Park New Orleans Douglas Park and Churchill Downs Louisville Ky Latonia Ky and Fort Erie Canada Mr Ma ¬ ginn was held in high esteem by turfmen who gave him full recognition for his ability integrity and zeal The Kentucky State Hacing Commission paid him a high compliment recently when they ippolnted him Imndicapper for all course In Ken ¬ tucky with the exception of Lexington Mr Maginn was a deep student and hard worker The turf has lost in him a capable and conscientious ollicial
