October Hi.— J. S. Wards good two- • year-old. Bodge, beat a band of all-aged horses in I the Prince George Handicap this afternoon. He was . ridden by J. McTaggart. made all the pace and was easing up at the finish. The race was run over a ; heavy track. A.ldie M. was second, with Montresor third. Bistaut Shore was an added starter and was J prominent contender for a half mile, then quit. i Superintendent, winner of the third race, was bid , up to !f2.2tl5. an advance of 05 over the enn-rod ; price. H. S. Bcdw.-ll, whose Brave Cunarder tin- ; ished second, was r.s|M.nsible for the run-up. Videt , was claimed out of the first race by his former , owner, Sam Louis. The clubhouse balconies were crowded with many prominent in the social circles of Washington, Baltimore aud New York. Among those present were Mr. aud Mrs. Price McKinney. W. 8. Street, Andrew Miller, I!. K. Knapp. James Butler. Schuyler Parsons anil the Russian Ambassador. Several the ambassadors from South American republics were also present. Announcement has lieen made by the Southern Maryland Jockey Club that the mutuel system of speculation will lie installed f.«r the coming meeting at Bowie in November. It was supposed that the club would have both the bookmakers ami the mutuels. but it turns out that a new system will be inaugurated at Bowie. There will be twenty-seven seller- and only three machines, one for straight tickets, one for place and another for show. A system of telephones will lie used l e-tweeii the sellers and the calculat .rs at the ma- I chines. The men in charge of the machines will be informed constantly of the sales and the machines will show the amount of money wagered on each horse, together with the total of the pool on ; the race. These machines will be immense affairs, probably eight or ten feet long, with the horses names and the numbers of such size that they can lie plainly read at some distance. It seems as if the system may solve the much-mooted question of a totalizator. It is the idea of Mortimer Mahooey. who will be in charge of the mutuel department at Bowie. Captain K. B. Cassatt has decided to retire his horses for the year and Trial by Jury. Sun Jod and Spearhead will tie shipped from here to the Ches-terbrook farm in Pennsylvania on Monday. Trial by Jury came out of his last race crippled. Spearhead will be raced at the hunt meetings this fall, while the other two will be rested until spring. Jockeys Loftus and Iitz. who left last night to ride at J. E. Wideiiers meeting at Elkins Part, will return here for Mondays racing. Forty-four entries were made for the second race on Monday and were split into three divisions. E. H. Hanna sent fifteen of the entries in this race over from Benning. Trovato was claimed out of the last race by Emil Herz for 00.
