u I d .i r ,_ • j : " 1 0 ■v 0 a a to °, of ■ o " •! It n iu u V k . of if SUNSTAR AND PRINCE PALATIKE. I shall have a ejaei deal to write aliout Mr. J. R. Joels stud another day. but at present I will only refer to Sunstar and Prince Palatini, the former of which stands in the box that used to be Royal Hamptons, while the latter is in Commons. Argu-j incnt as to. which was the better of these two good horses is futile, so far as Mr. Joel is con- cerned. for he owns them both: but my own preference is for Sunstar. which was a Derby winner of extraordinarily high class. He has developed into a far thicker, stronger horse than any one who saw him in training would have imagined. He has a lovely placid temperament, and is so sure with his mares that his stud seasons need not he measured by the number of his visitors. Subscriptions have la-en booked to Sunstar. and that quite recently, even for 1918. Needless to say. the subscribers are rich men. but it is phe-r nomenal to find a horse in such demand at such a fee in times like the present. The pressure is equally great for subscriptions to Prince Palatine. which has furnished into a far better-locking stallion than I expected to see. Tliore is a lot of his old granddam. Glare, aliout him. and his head is a good deal reminiscent of Ayrshire, itreed-,r ing like his cannot well lie surpassed, for 1er-J sinimon and Isinglass gave him such credentials for stamina, while Glare made s|ieed I certaintv. and the Imok shows that he |Missessed lmth quali--• ties iu ample measure, though, like his sire, he needed to lie clean wound up to show his form. There was no lionler-line belwe-n that and almost absurd defeat. It seemed strange to look :it him there and remember Common, which was installed in that Imx in 189!. and let us ho|n- that Prince Palatines destiny as a sir* is a more favorable one. for Common, much though 1 ami others ex-e pected of him. proved disappointing. Royal llamp-:t ton. the former occupant of Sunstars box. was a good deal more successful. -••The Special Couimia- *• si. ner" in London Sportsman.
