Weir announces that he will start Old Rosebud in a race before the meeting is far advanced. Col. W. E. Applegate has gone to California from Kentucky for a visit before the opening. He will have charge of the liooking privileges. John C. Ferris will bring seven horses here from the George J. Long Bashford Manor Farm. Jockey A. Neylon. who rested at his California home last winter, and who first came into prominence as a race rider at Juarez two years ago, is here for the meeting. Jockey E. Pool went through on a hunting trip to 1aliforuia yesterday. He will return before Thanksgiving day. He rode for L. Marion on Kentucky . tracks and is under contract to the R. L. Rogers stable. General Veiinstiano Carranza has informed Andres Garcia, his Consul General liere. that because the race track holds a franchise from a recognized government, the Diaz Government, the franchise will not 1m- cancelled at this time. Carranza declares that he is constitutionally opposed to gambling in any torni in tlie republic, but realizing that tiie Juarez Jockey Club has e|iended Sl.OOM.OOO in good faith, and the horsemen having shipped here for the raiing season, the season will be permitted.
