AMERICAN NOMINATIONS IN FRANCE. New York. November 10. — With open racing still regarded as impossible in France, breeders of thoroughbred horses for profit rather than sport find the situation there critical. The lack of a market for young horses has encumbered the breeding establishments with yearlings and two-year-olds, and tlie expenses for maintenance are becoming burdensome. Strong arguments have Im*cu made for a partial resumption of racing iu order to class the thoroughbreds with a view to maintaining the standard «f future prodncton. American owners have made several entries for next years French turf fixtures. For the principal three-year-old events W. K. Van-derbilt has named twenty-eiirht -olts and fillies; August Belmont has entered fifteen: II. B. Duryea. seven: Charles Carroll, seven: Frank J. Gould, five: Harry P. Whitney, four: j. K. Widener. four; W. Astor Chanler. three, and John Sauford. one.
