TIA JUANA TRACK WORK ON BUILDING THE NEW COURSE SOUTH OF SAN DIEGO. CAL. — — — — — , Many Teams and Men On the Ground — Plans and Men of the New Baring Organization-Officials to Be Socn Chosen. San Diego. Cal.. Novcmlier Hi. — Stories have lieen i sent out about the building of the race track at Tia J nana. Mexico, for the last six years. These ■ talcs have had outlined parties building the track on several different occasions. But at last something real is being really done. A new racing association, which will l»c known as the Lower California Jockey Club, is in reality building a race track and expects tt have the establishment completed and ready for racing by next Christinas day. The construction of the new course has been under way for about two weeks with a hundred teams of horses and two hundr.d and tifty men employed in 1 different capacities. A large steam shovel is daily grinding down a 1 hill and leveling it off and making a big cut into a large mound of ground which will be used as a 1 till to the entrance to the grandstand. The amount of work that has been done in this 1 slH-rt iteriod by contractor G. E. Gabrielson is J healthy and he makes the statement that he will 1 have the work completed and ready to turn over to • the- new association on Christmas Day. He is to get a Ihiiiiis of *m if lie accomplishes ■ his task on time. The grading of the track is * now con pleted for the full elliptical mile, with 1 turns well thrown up. and it is ready to receive . a resurfacing of ten inches of loam which will 1 probably make it fast and safe. The top dressing • will be placed up m it within the next ten days. : and at that time it will lie in condition so that 1 owners and trainers can gallop their horses. The concrete abutments for the new 350-foot t stand are already in place and the frame work is being put up under the charge of the engineer and architect. C. C. Tucker. The grandstand will have a seating capacity of * f 3.«»U0 and will lie connected with a long run-way from the San Diego and Arizona Kailway. which I will lead direct to the middle of the grandstand. The trans]M»rtatiTn facilities for the new course ? are to be abundant. There are at present two railroads entering from trie American side from San „ Diego, and the people in charge have been promised I by the San Dievo and South Eastern Kailroad that t tiiey will electrify its lines from a point alxmt t three miles distant direct to the grandstand. This - line is controlled by the Spreckels interests. There e are several good automobile roads, including one p direct from Coronado Beach, so that people living i.yK,at vicinity «■ not be compelled to motor to 0 S-t" Deigo to reach the track direct. This road is s • ailed the Silver Strand and is one of the good d seashore drives in California. The state highway, known as the El amino Real. which runs direct to the line, has recently lieen " finished. For a course which is situated fourteen 11 miles from San Deigo. the plaus for getting there - are ample. On high land, overlooking the broad valley where 0 the track is located, tlie stables are now in course e of construction. It is the clubs intention to erect 1 forty-stall stables. A more desirable spot could d not be selected. The stalls are being erected with ■ every modern convenience and will lie equipped ■ ifh electric lights. There are to lie large sheds s and plenty of space allowed lietween each stable. • Several wells are lK-ing sunk on the course and d the water is pronounced to lie good and pure. This enterprise is receiving the backing of many f private citizens of the state »f California. Among £ those interested, who are lending their Mipport. are e A II. Sprockets. F. E. White. II. A. Huiser. II. J. ■ Moore. W. E. Tobias. C. C. Tucker anil 1". M. • White. The elect ion of officers of the club will take place ■ within ten days and at that meeting the selection 11 of racing officials will be made. The club is desirous - of getting the best. The purses anil methods * of iM-tting will lie settled al the same time. Many ineiulieis of the new association are in hearty favor ■r of the pari-iiiutucl system of watering. P. CLARK.
