Tiajan and Kenworthy Fail Their Confident Backers — Horses Depart for Havana — Bcnning Fire Affects the Baces of the Day. Baltimore, Md.. November 10. — F. E. Roses greatly improved Sand .Marsh scored a handy victory iu todays feature at Bowie when lie be.t Kewessa by a head iu the .Midway Handicap, a dash of three-quarters for all ages. Sand Mar-h was ridden by A. Schuttinger. made all the pace and just lasted long enough to win after a long and hard stretch drive. The winner set a fast pace, the first half being run in 47. Hester Irynne and Pixy, collided as the- R. T. Wilson entry, wer • heavily backed. Hester Pryune was a dose contender to the stretch turn, where she came on the outside of the lea lers and was unable to improve her position iu the last eighth. The track was in excellent condition once mere and interesting contests were the order. Tiajans performance in the second race was the bigge-t disappointment of the afternoon. He showed a bit of speed iu the early running, hut quit in tfe* homestretch and was beaten for the short end of the purse by Bigtodo. Kenworthy. a supposed good thing in the third race, flattered his backers by going la the front while rounding the first turn and leading to the eighth iKist. He was a tiring third at the finish and after the race he was claimed for H.» by C. C. Smithson. H. G. Bedwell shipped part of his stable in the consignment of horses that left here for Havana this morning. There were seven carloads iu all that departed from Washington. G. W. Hosiner came over to Bowie during the afternoon and reported that all of his horses had been burned in the Benning fire. They included Battling Nelson. Dancing Master and Bergoo. W. T. Andersons colt Harry, which was turned loose ami ran down the railroad tracks, was struck by an engine and had bis head cut off. On account of the disastrous fire at the Benning race track last night, all of the horses stabling there that hail been entered for the Bowie races today were scratched. The fire damaged the elec- trie "line to such an extent that it was impossible to run the special train in daily service lietween tin; two tracks. John L. Paul today purchased Toddling from T. J. Shannon. For Thanksgiving Day it has lieen decided to offer a ,000 handicap, at one mile and a sixteenth, a* :. special feature at Bowie. On Monday the first rue; will take place at 1 :30 oclock.
